1924, Jan 19 In a statement, said that he would propose to the Indian Legislative Assembly to recommend to the governor-general in Council Congress to release Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, waiving the remaining period of his imprisonment.
Jan 30 Sworn in as member of Indian Legislative Assembly; oath taken by Sir Alexander Frederick Whyte, President of Assembly.
Feb 3 Moved a Resolution at the joint Conference of Swarajist and non-Swaraist members of the legislatures, which called on the government to take immediate steps for the establishment of full responsible government in India.
Feb 4 Asked questions in Assembly on matters relating to the Government subsidy to Reuters and API, Telephone and Wireless Concessions expenditure on British Exhibition, Present Position of Peninsular and Oriental Mail Contract, Printing of Currency Notes in India, Purchase of Stores in India, Great Britain, etc. Indian Auxiliary Force, Expenditure on Ecclesiastical Department, Europeans in Indian Civil Service Stores for New Delhi and the Sukkur Barrage, Report of the Creditors' Committee, Alliance Bank, Mining and other Concessions Granted to Foreigners, Indian Tenders for Locomotives, Demobilized Officers and met, Empire Contracts.

Participated in discussion on the Home member Sir Malcolm Hailey's motion to consider the Indian Penal Code (Amendment) Bill; desired to refer the Bill to the Select Committee where he intended to move an amendment.
Feb 5 As leader of the Independent Party, supported Malaviya's amendment to B. Venkatapartiaju's Resolution in Indian Legislative Assembly on amalgamation of Indian Territorial Force with the Auxiliary Force.

In Indian Legislative Assembly spoke in favor of Rangachariar's Resolution for revising the 19l9 Act urged dominion status and prevail autonomy.
Feb 6 In Indian Legislative Assembly, supported Sir Purshotamdas Thakurdas motion to refer the Indian Coinage (Amendment) Bill to a Select Committee; the Bill was piloted by Finance member Sir Basil Blackett, who wanted to get it passed without being referred to Select Committee.
Feb 7 Voted in favor of K.C. Neogy's Resolution regarding Imposition of a Countervailing Duty on South African Coal Imported into India; motion adopted. Also raised a point of order against Pandit Malaviya's amendment in B. Venkatapatiraju's Resolution on Reduction of Prevail Contributions.
Feb 8 In Indian Legislative Assembly spoke in favor of amendment moved by Motilal Nehru to Diwan Bahadur T. Rangachariar's Resolution on "the Grant of Full self-government Dominion Status to India". Also raised questions on protection of Steel Industry.
Feb 10 Spoke on the Resolution, moved by V. J. Patel in Indian Legislative Assembly for the removal of "all restrictions" against Horniman's return to India.
Feb 11 Moved a Resolution in Indian Legislative Assembly to refer the Indian Penal Code (Amendment) Bill to the Select Committee.

Feb 14 Moved, and spoke on Resolution for shifting the purchase of stores from Stores Department, Indian Office, to India, in Assembly; Resolution adopted with W.S.J. Wilson's amendment.

Supported Diwan Bahadur M. Ramachandra Rao's Resolution requiring all contracts between the Government and companies with English or Indian domicile, extending over a period of years and creating a public charge, actual or prospective, be approved by the Indian Legislature; countered official criticism against the Resolution.
Feb 18 Along with his Independent Party members. voted for the Swarajist Resolution , moved by Bepin Chandra Pal, demanding full self-governing Dominion Status for India; motion adopted.
Feb 19 Supported V.J. Patel's motion for removal of restrictions on Horniman's return to India.
Feb 21 Opposed C. Duraiswami Aiyangar's motion for referring Indian Coinage (Amendment) Bill moved by Sir Basil Blackett, Finance Member back to Select Committee on the plea that it had emerged from the same Committee.
Feb 25 Asked in Assembly, to state names of non-official visitors to state prisoners which Sir Malcolm Hailey, Home member declined to answer. Participated in discussion on Select Committee. Report on Indian Coinage (Amendment) Bill opposed C. Duraiswami Aiyangar's amendment to Section 15 of the Bill.
Feb 27 Opposed Dr. H. S. Gour's motion to maintain original form of Indian Penal Code (Amendment) Bill, moved by Hailey. Along with 47 members moved an adjournment motion in Indian Legislative Assembly regarding police firing on a Sikh Jatha at Jaito.
Feb 28 Supported Dr. H. S. Gour's motion to amend the Indian Penal Code (Amendment) Bill in order to define rap. The Bill proposed raising the age of consent from 12 to 14.
Mar 1 Elected to Joint Committee Council of State, and Legislative Assembly to consider Bill to consolidate the law applicable to intestate and testamentary succession in British India.
Mar 3 On a motion by Diwan Bahadur T. Rangacharia, was elected to the Committee of the House to consider a Resolution . on the separation of Railway Finance from General of Finance.
Mar 6 Pleaded for Indianisation of Army with necessary funds, during Budget debate in Assembly.
Mar 10 Asked whether the proposed Committee on Indian Affairs appointed by British Cabinet was going to consider revision of GOI Act, in Assembly.

Voted for adoption of the head "Customs" in the Budget; motion adopted; participated in voting on other heads as well.
Mar 11 Expressed his sorrow on G. M. Bhurgri's death in Assembly.

Clarified the position of Nationalist Party in regard to Demands for Grants; said that this party was following the policy of total remission of demands; endorsed Motilal Nehru's stand; voted for adoption of the head "Forest" in the Budget, after reducing it by Rs.100 motion adopted.
Mar 12 Voted in Assembly for adoption of the motion that under head "Railways" in the Budget working expenses be reduced by Rs. 2,500,000 motion adopted.
Mar 13 Moved an adjournment motion, in Assembly, regarding police firing on a Sikh Jatha on way to Jaito.
Mar 14 Pleaded against the adjournment of Indian Legislative Assembly session to August 1924; called upon members to devote more time and labor to the business of the House.

Issued a statement on the aims and objects of All India Muslim League's forthcoming session which he termed very important.
Mar 15-16 Presided over the All India Muslim League Council meeting at Delhi.
Mar 28 In an interview with the Representative Advocates of India, said that until and unless the Government came forward with its program and policy and followed proper advice, the Independent Party members. in Indian Legislative Assembly would support the Swarajists.
Mar 31 Instructed Zahur Ahmad to start correspondence with the Lahore All India Muslim League branch, regarding fixing of the dates of the adjourned session.
Apr 14 Zahur Ahmad conveyed him the Punjab leader's request that he should preside over the session. Requested him to send his inaugural address for Urdu translation.
Apr 17 Informed Zahur Ahmad that since the President address was already delivered by late Mr. Bhurgri, he would not deliver one, and that since financial matters would be discussed at the session he could not do anything in the matter at the moment. Instructed him to publicize the session.
May 13 In an interview to the Representative API, informed him of the real importance of the forthcoming All India Muslim League session under his presidentship.
May 24-25 Presided over All India Muslim League annual session, Globe Theater, Lahore. Reelected as All India Muslim League's President without any opposition for a further term of three years.
May 27 Raised question in Assembly on Resolution regarding the release of Maulana Hasrat Mohani.

On motion by him, Sir Alexander Muddiman leader of the House, agreed to ask Secretary of State that non-official members be given an opportunity for discussion in Assembly before any action is taken on Report of Royal commission On Superior Services. Spoke in support of the motion to refer Steel Industry (Protection) Bill to Select Committee and not to discuss those matters which could be dealt with by Committee appointed to serve on Select Committee on this Bill.
May 30 Urged the House to agree with Acharya's motion that discussion on the Report of Lee Commission (Royal Commission on Public Services) be postponed till the Government explained action taken on it motion accepted.
Jun 2 Opposed Dr. S.K. Datta's motion to circulate Steel Industry (Protection) Bill to elicit public opinion after it was resumed from the Select Committee with which Datta himself was associated which started renewed discussion on the Bill. Also participated in other motions regarding this Bill in the House. His point that as he himself was share holder in this industry his opinion should not be given weight, was appreciated by members including Motilal Nehru and Malaviya.
Jun 4 Asked question, in Assembly, regarding Departmental Committee on Working of Reforms and on the proposed amendment in GOI Act, 1919, which required the Government "to establish effectual consultation with the non-official Representative opinion in the country". Asked a supplementary question regarding Government stand on Lee Comrn's Report.
Jun 5 Participated in discussion on Steel Industry (Protection) Bill which was passed with amendments.
Jun 7 Zahur Ahmad forwarded him the minutes of All India Muslim League Lahore session for his perusal.
Jun 19 Accepted the invitation of GOI to serve on the Reforms Inquiry Committee saying that it would be open to the Committee to recommend, if necessary, the amendment of the constitution.
Jul 6 Asked question on Naturalization of Indians in U.S.A., in Assembly.
Sep 8 Spoke on Land Customs Bill moved by Sir Basil Blackett, Finance Member in Assembly, and proposed thrashing out the problem in the Selection Committee.
Sep 12 Criticized recommendations of Lee Commission on Public Services, in Assembly; dissatisfied with the Commission's recommendations that fifty percent of Indian Civil Service posts should be Indianised, he wanted more.
Sep 16 Supported Dr. H. S. Gour's motion that Hindu Religious and Charitable Trusts Bill be referred to a Select Committee on which he was also to serve. Supported Dr. Gour's another bill to repeal the Indian Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 1908.
Sep 19 Supported N.C. Kelkar's amendment that there should be judicial trial before punishment of defaulters, as proposed in the Land Customs Bill.

Regarding Dr. K.G. Lokokare's motion to delete clause 6 from Provident Funds Bill, intervened in Assembly discussion, saying that the House should decide it by division of show of hands since the matter was not that important as to demand much discussion.
Sep 22 Participating in discussion on K. Rama Iyangar's Resolution regarding Suspension of Taxation Inquiry Committee and substitution of an Economic Inquiry Committee presented amendment to this Resolution in a motion desiring the substitution of Taxation Inquiry Committee by Economic Inquiry Committee with only non-officials and experts. As members satisfied, Iyangar, withdrew his Resolution in favor of Mohammed Ali Jinnah's motion which was passed by the House. His amendment was appreciated by Pandit Motilal Nehru and President of the House.
Sep 23 In Indian Legislative Assembly supported the Indian Criminal Law Amendment (Repealing) Bill during its Second reading; termed the original Bill as being against the dignity of the House. The Repealing Bill was passed the same day.

Appointed on Select Committee to consider Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill.

Included in a Committee formed by muslims to organize a Hindu-Muslim Unity Conference.
Oct 20 Informed Zahur Ahmad that the Bombay Provincial Muslim League had accepted his suggestion to hold its annual session at Bombay where the All India Mohammaden Educational Conference would also be holding its annual meeting at the same time.
Dec 4 Wrote to Lord Reading regarding 'Dominion Self-government'.
Dec 11 Decided not to change the venue to Balgaum and to hold the All India Muslim League session at Bombay. Advised Muslims to attend the meeting in large numbers and place their suggestions for Hindu-Muslim unity without having any misgiving about decisions taken by the All India Muslim League Council.
Dec 24 Supported Shaukat Ali's proposal for the formation of joint action Committee after mutual consultation with different Muslim political organizations. Malik Barkat Ali supported his proposal about public services, placed before the All India Muslim League session at Bombay.

In a telegram to Mufti Mohammed Sadiq, expressed his inability to attend the session on account of a Jalsa at Qadian; wished All India Muslim League every success.
Dec 31 Attended All India Muslim League session, Bombay; moved Resolution to appoint Committee to formulate Muslim demand regarding Muslim representation in Legislatures and other elective bodies and in public services; Resolution adopted.
