The rectangular platform, which is also tapering, 300 x 275 feet at the base, makes a square of 250 feet each side on the top. It acts like a podium. It is solidly filled with earth except for the basement below the tomb chamber and is reinforcd by masonry buttresses on its three sides. Twentytwo steps lead up to the top of the platform. The buttresses not only divide the length of the platform into smaller bays but also remove its monotony. There are nine such bays on each side having concealed tube lights. The central one on the west is larger than others and is further provided with side rails for holding, all painted silvery white. Its walls are covered with mosaic and so is the top of the platform. The vast space of the platform is relieved in places by the addition of black mosaic squares in a combination of five.
